The Eclipse is a new grassroots initiative in the UK that aims to obscure the rise of the far right with anti-authoritarian action. We are republishing their call for the establishment of Eclipse Committees to develop institutions of care, resistance, and solidarity.

Are you not burning with rage beneath this empire’s unsettling sun?
Something is deeply wrong. Despite all the work we put into building a new world, the problems of the current one still loom large. We cannot go on like this: ineffectual, fragmented, and afraid. We cannot afford to betray the fire we hold in our hearts by continuing to act as though we are powerless.
How much longer can we stand this?
We can resist and reimagine. In our communities. In our everyday lives.
This is a call to gather.
We are not going to ask anything of the corrupt state that brought us here. Instead, we ask ourselves: how can we use the power that we have? How are we going to create a world that resists the assault of a fast unfolding war on us, a war on the people?
A complex landscape is being drafted out there and we can subvert it. Together. We can oppose and block the inevitability of the far right manifesting new horrors for our communities in the impending 2029 general election.
Can you imagine an eclipse and feel its freedom drawing near?
The forces of imperial capitalism, patriarchy and devastation become increasingly unstable. Neoliberalism decays into fascism. The global empire is collapsing, as our planet is destroyed and millions suffer from wars and ecological degradation. Corporations and states are the benefactors of politicians and media demagogues – siphoning wealth from our labour, blood and reproduction – who want us to believe they have the answers. We are told to accept Earth's destruction as an inevitability and to blame those who seek refuge, dignity and freedom rather than those in power.
We can be a ring of life to protect ourselves from the scorching despair. This is a call to obscure the rise of the new fascism with anarchist and antiauthoritarian values and methods.
We begin the summoning of a new militant body for the anti-authoritarian forces and the anarchist movement. One which finds political unity where appropriate and a tactical unity where needed. A body that can eclipse the narratives of hate and the realities of oppression through solidarity, action, and hope.
We're not calling for a single action or to adopt a single approach. Rather, we will unleash a tide of decentralised but coordinated resistance, mutual aid, love and revolutionary solidarity to eclipse the hopeless spectre of the looming Parliamentary election and fight to make a better future ourselves.
Our call is threefold:
1. A call to all the anarchists: We call on anarchists to reclaim their existence and start taking space again. Whether in forests, in abandoned buildings, social centres, in the cracks and shadows of a capitalist order that is collapsing around us... Anywhere we can carve out space for freedom to grow, we will emerge and organise towards the eclipse.
We will discard our self-appointed barriers and work across networks and tendencies, establishing new fronts of hopeful resistance. New Eclipse Committees must form to oppose the coming tirade of electoral division and hopelessness. We want to share what we have and what we know with those also searching for a way out of the Empire's glare. To teach one another. To feed and heal one another. To defend one another. To build a new way of life in the bones of a dying capitalist world.
2. A call to organise several convergences: The first of four over the next three years will take place in January 2026, marked by an eclipse visible from the UK.
This first gathering shall be a space for the voices of the anarchist milieu, often at odds, often not seen as anarchist, often nourished by the old values of social emancipation, to come together for the material work through which we will decide our own future. We do not wait for the state to rot on its own. We do not wait for the bosses to change their minds about killing our planet and future. We do not wait for laws to define us or a new party to save us. We use our bodies and voices, our streets, our strong communities as the grounds to fight back.
We act. We build.
We live free.
This is not reform. This is a revolution.
3. A call to take back Mayday: The next few years will see dramatic changes to the political landscape. As we work to pull the anarchist movement out of its slumber, we will honour the memory of those who has fallen for our values every 1st May (May Day) to strongly remind everyone who fights against this barrage of greed and hate, everyone who believes in Autonomy, Solidarity, and Equality, that they are not alone and we will not capitulate.
We know that we will win. Not in some far-off day, but by nurturing our movement through mutual care, shared skills, and every moment of disobedience that tears another stitch from the fabric of domination.
Come. Let us gather. Let us emerge from the horizon stronger in ourselves and as a movement. Let us become dangerous in the only way that matters: together.
For total emancipation, for all those who struggle, for us all.
