That's a Wrap on Art and Poetry Month

As July begins, we reflect on the works highlighted during the past month of Art and Poetry. Read on to hear exciting updates from Interregnum.

by the Interregnum Collective

As we say goodbye to June, we wrap up our special issue of Interregnum focussed on Art and Poetry. This past month we were able to feature beautiful works from all over the world.

Here are some excerpts from three of the poems featured. The first is taken from Iona Soper's work, A Theory of Thunder, which comes from her time in Rojava:

A car backfires, a heart skips a beat
Bones of buildings edge the street
Mornings bring old dreads to greet
Was that the sound of thunder?
/////

Othering others is nothing new
Gone is 'we', it's just 'me' and 'you'
And if I'm honest, I fear too
The threat that comes with thunder

Going from the hills of Rojava, we bounce back over to the cold streets of Glasgow:

Interact, participate
And mispronounce
Awkward and shy.
It’s a small thing
I hold my breath
Until the new picture replaces the old one

Cee Davis speaks about the pain of Palestine and the want to do more, to change the picture from old to new.

From the modern present day, we are able to travel many years back in time, courtesy of Jed Forward:

Which ill-omened sun
Shone upon the
Ancient skin?
/////
Of my people:
Bleached white
The grasping hands of
Thief-hearted men

The ability of poetry to moves us across borders, across time, and across emotions. This article would be incomplete without featuring the art of Nasra Hussen, which accompanied Fawzi A's work Sanguine.

Although our spotlight feature on art and poetry has come to an end, we will still be hosting pieces once a month that are poetry/art related. Indeed, it is our hope to feature a piece on popular culture once a month as well. Please submit your pieces, thoughts and musings to us here: contact@interregnum.live

This past month would not have been possible without the work of our collective, the sharing of our members, and the submissions of readers.

A final update: This September we will be taking our annual break. During this time, if you are interested in joining or publishing with Interregnum, please contact us.

Until then, enjoy our regular scheduled content.
